I despise the word "reset"
And Twitter chats: How to Successfully Host & Participate
Some bullet point updates from me:
I’ve done five of these free brainstorming sessions and they’ve been fun on both ends. If you need another person to bounce off of, I’m here!
Last week was really rough for me. It’s at 6 weeks now without a human hug and I don’t know what else to say here about it.
I was able to borrow clippers from a neighbor and trimmed part of my hair but now I need to learn how to layer so I don’t have a bowl cut.
I despise the word "reset"
Second only to the phrase “back to normal.”
I’ve been hearing “reset” be used more often lately, tied directly to the pandemic and how it’s going to cause all of us to “reset” our lives, priorities, and work. I despise the word right now because it insinuates a return to normalcy when in fact things won’t be normal. This much is clear. That normal from six weeks ago is not going to return, same with all the businesses that have shuttered and lives who have departed.
And plus, the pandemic has exposed so many issues with our infrastructure, social systems, and medical systems (which many already knew) – why would anyone want to go back to this? Instead, I’m trying to create a new normal for me, one that’s going to evolve with the times since I imagine sheltering will end and I will get to hug someone again. Thinking otherwise is not healthy for me.
All this is to say that if you’ve been feeling unproductive, down, anxious, worried, sane, nuts, unable to create or work – all are valid. I don’t want a reset. I want to take whatever I’ve learned from this and use it.
As I have mentioned a few issues ago, this newsletter might be evolving as marketing changes. I don’t know where it’s going, I almost didn’t send it today. But I do appreciate all of you who read it, those who respond, and those who have stuck by me through all my rambling thoughts.
