Week 6: Lush

February 27-March 5

This week’s exercise makes us imagine what more we can put into our surroundings. It acts as a counterbalance to what you may have created for the monotone week. I have a favor to ask of those participating: if you don’t feel comfortable sharing your final works, it’s fine, but I’d love to know if you’re going along with the challenges. I, too, lurk often regarding these types of challenges.

I have a deep love of greenery. This much is apparent if you browse through the biweekly posts in tanJennts: each one ends with a plant feature from my container garden. The idea of lush can be interpreted in different definitions. There’s the forest kind of lush, the overabundance of items to create a luxurious environment or certain materials that invoke royalty.

Lush itself is a bath and body brand that encourages “long candlelit baths, sharing showers, massage, filling the world with perfume, and in the right to make mistakes, lose everything and start again.” This was taken from their values page.

What does lush mean to you?

Examples & directions to go:

  • Immerse yourself in the nearest forest or garden
  • What do you treat yourself with to make your environment luxurious? What’s a splurge for you?
  • Think about textures that convey luxury like velvet and silk.
  • Reflect on a moment in your past when you felt like you were being treated like royalty. This could also be a moment that you created for yourself.
