How lucky I am to ___
For a while now, I’ve been using a dog training method of positive reinforcement on myself. The first step in my bookkeeping tasks is to start a fun playlist. Ever since writing out the steps in an SOP for myself, it’s been easier and faster to complete. And when I finish, I end with a treat to myself, something small like a cookie or snack.
A businessman told me this had a name in the human business world. It sounded fancy and I don’t remember it, but it’s still positive association and reinforcement, which I feel is instantly more understandable and not dressed up in MBA-speak.
Anyway, this works! I haven’t been completely dreading and procrastinating the task! It’s a small but important win.
I’ve also been working on reframing these tasks and how I talk about them: “How lucky I am to be able to ___.” How lucky I am to be able to do my own accounting. How lucky I am to have time to balance my books. How lucky I am to design a client onboarding process the way I want.
Yeah, I’m not convinced either.
