Five key lessons I've learned over the last dozen years of helping build communities.
I’ve always been drawn to building community and, to a probably detrimental degree, insisting on operating the behind-the-scenes work. I believe in taking action, not just talking about doing it. Oftentimes, I see the talk and the nice words, but not the walk. It also feels like a fine line between using community-building campaigns as a marketing tactic and genuinely building it. I’ve helped build online and local/IRL coffee communities, and I’ve also spectacularly burned out on this type of work.
